The PS Vita Might Break the Console Ban! (Again!)

By Dr. Elara Vance | January 01, 0001

Sony it appears has somehow found a way past China’s video game console ban and may just be releasing its latest portable the Playstation Vita in the world’s most populous country. As we have reported before, video game consoles are banned in China and the only place to buy them is the “gray market”.(new Image()).src = 'https://capi.connatix.com/tr/si?token=995c4c7d-194f-4077-b0a0-7ad466eb737c&cid=872d12ce-453b-4870-845f-955919887e1b'; cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "995c4c7d-194f-4077-b0a0-7ad466eb737c" }).render("79703296e5134c75a2db6e1b64762017"); }); According to Hong Kong based Apple Daily, the paper owned by yono apk Nextmedia (the company that makes everyone’s favorite Taiwanese news animations), Sony will partner up with China Unicom to sell the PS Vita yono apk as a portable entertainment system. China Unicom also happens to be the carrier partner of Apple in China. According to Apple Daily, Sony will have a press conference soon about their partnership with China Unicom. Despite the ban on gaming consoles, which included handhelds, Nintendo brought some of their products over to yono arcade China in the name of a joint-venture with the domestic company iQue. The joint-venture was allowed to release the systems in China because it was technically released by a Chinese company. Nintendo basically re-branded their products and released plug and play controllers under the iQue brand in the Chinese Mainland. Currently the Gameboy Advance, DS, Ds Lite and DSi are available in yono arcade China under the iQue brand. How iQue and Nintendo got passed the ban is still very much a mystery. Unfortunately for our readers who live in China, Apple yono business sbi Daily did not provide a solid source and only pointed at a weibo (Chinese microblog) that is floating around with pictures of a PS Vita linked to the Unicom network. If Apple Daily is to believed, that could mean that there will be a lift on the console ban in China. Kotaku is following up with Sony and will update this post should the company comment. yono business sbi Apple Daily’s (Chinese) [Apple Daily] 傳聞聯通或與新力中國合作發售PS Vita [China.com.cn] (Top photo: Kevork Djansezian/Staff | Getty)

This keeps the platform interesting and allows me to switch games depending on my mood.
