We went to the supermarket to buy dinner, when we noticed that in the rummy satta car next to ours in the parking lot, there was a very, very small infant. The windows were cracked opened, the hatch-back was a mess of empty drink cans and food wrappers, cigarette butts, and a sleeping baby.
Told the supermarket staff. The staffer, a nebbish character, kinda looked at me and said, “Oh?” as if I told him it was raining. I explained, you know, that it’s a pretty shitty thing to leave a baby in a car — cause they are helpless and things can happen to them and if it’s hot rummy star they can die. And he kinda went “Eh…”
I asked him if he could trying paging the person who owned the car and asked him if he wanted the car’s plate number.
“That’s not necessary,” he said, “you probably don’t know it.”
“No, I wrote it down.”
“That’s okay.”
Another staffer, some old lady cashier, said, “No, get the number plate.” So I gave it to the old lady so she could page, and she did asking if the person with license plates so-and-so could come to the front. I rushed to the counter to get a glimpse.
The nebbish supermarket staffer kinda stood there behind the counter, and I asked if the person ever came to answer the page. “No.” And when I got the parking lot, the hatch-back was gone.
